Understand the Four Fare Rule

Understand the Four Fare Rule

All transfers operate on demand with a minimum requirement of 4 fares. To guarantee departure for 3 people or less an agreement to pay the additional fare(s) is required.

The additional fares will be refunded if other passengers book the same transfer. Failure to reach the minimum of 4 fares 10 days before a trip will result in a full refund being offered and the service canceled if you’re unwilling to pay the additional fares for the service to operate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't wish to pay the extra fares?

That's fine. We still encourage you to book, as this shows others that there are existing bookings on the service who are also looking to only pay their 1 fare. If we don't reach the minimum numbers 10 days prior, we will contact you and discuss canceling the service or moving your booking to another day where we have reached the minimum numbers.

How do I know if other people have booked on a service?

Each service has a capacity for 13 passengers. When you go to book, if availability shows a number below '13' you'll know others have already booked. Anything below '10' available seats has reached the minimum number to operate, therefore you won't need to worry about paying anything extra than your 1 fare.

Will I receive a refund if Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences cancels the service due to not reaching minimum numbers?

Yes. A refund of monies paid (less credit card fees) will be issued if you have selected not to pay the additional fares, and only wish to pay for your 1 fare.

What are my other options?

This all depends on where you are! The Overland Track and Three Capes have a number of other providers servicing walkers at either end. As for the Southwest, this is very remote and to date, Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences is the only commercial operator servicing bushwalkers in the South West.
